Roll bar: Strength and Reinforcement

Dan-
  A simple roll bar will add little to the strength/stiffness of your car.
In the dollar-per-degree-of-benefit catagory, it'd have to rate a near-zero.
If you are talking about a roll cage, especially a properly trianglated one
tied to the front and rear suspension mounting points, the dollar-to-benefit
ratio improves dramatically.
