Steering Rack Problems

    if the studs broke, the only fix is to weld new studs in place. =
although the driver side bracket *might* be an open mounting, meaning =
you can get to it from behind. if you can, you can drill out whats left =
of the stud and make it a nut/bolt assembly, but you would still want to =
tack the bolt head in place.
    just checked the twin. the stud is part of a raised sheet-metal box =
thats welded to the firewall. it may be possible to slot the side of it =
and do some sort of repair.

  Well, I just found out why my steering went bad all of a sudden.  On =
the closest steering rack mount to driver side, both bolts have actually =
broken off. I've called a few local shops and they say I will have to go =
to a body shop in order to get the work done. Anyone know if there is an =
easier way of fixing this problem so the car is at least moderately safe =
to drive? I'm strapped for cash as it is right now..
