16V Supercharger setup!

I didn't say any 9A setup was bad or good, I just said it wasn't better
than an ABA 16v. I'm not knocking factory pistons or stacking
headgaskets. I know a lot of people have put down some insane numbers
with stacked headgaskets on stock bottom ends. However, I think it's
stupid to go through the trouble of purchasing and swapping a 9A (for
forced induction purposes) on a budget setup.

so... based on your post... what was your bad experience with a 9a
block,
factory pistons, and gasket sandwich?

I will take your word for in it that an ABA 16vT isn't ideal, but a 9A
with three headgaskets is most definitely NOT better. First off, I
would definitely NOT swap a 9A into any vehicle without putting forged
pistons in it. Total waste otherwise...if you're going cheap, you're
not going to swap any engines. Assuming we're talking about turbo'ing
sciroccos with factory 1.8 16v engines...

I still believe you could do a good setup for crazy cheap if you were so
inclined...my only recommendation is that you DO NOT do it to your daily
driver, like I did.

I agree that the ABA motronic sucks ass for forced induction.

Screw all these discussions about converting ABA blocks for 16v turbo or
supercharger use. By the time you are done (unless your GOD of the
junkyard scroungers) you will end up spending all your time chasing
parts and monkeydicking around trying to make it all work.

In Fact, if you read back on my posts here and the hardcore forum posts
about ABA 16v you will find that it is a shitty basis for a 16v. Without
significant $$ invested in the pistons. Even if you get a gread deal on
all the parts, and swap them in yourself, and opt not to clearance the
pistons.....you get 8:1 compression. Which is to low even to start a
turbo project with a 16v head.

Also, the chippable motronic setup is a pile of shit for forced
induction. The ONLY way to go is G60/Aftermarket EFI.

If you want a nice 16v setup, buy a 9A motor, stack a couple of metal
headgaskets on it for $18 each and use a 1mm copper spacer gasket in
between those. This brings compression to about 8.75:1 and puts your
total cost in the setup around $600 (supposing that you find the 9A at a
decent price).

If however you still want to do an ABA 16v drop me a note and I'll show
you how I did it for under $350. In Fact, if you call now I'll even
send you a nice set of wrist pin clips at no extra charge.
