I didn't like the idea of bolting down straps, setting the battery in
the box and the box on the straps, and then letting the straps hold
down the box with the battery rattling inside like a marble in a tin
can. So I got some steel from Home Depot, maybe 5/8" wide X 3/16"
thick (MAX!) and cut them to more or less battery length. (See
http://w3.one.net/~rapieper/battery/).

Then I placed these parallel inside the box so the battery would cover
them completely, and drilled holes in these bars, through the box, and
into the car, nutting and bolting it all together. The nylon straps
went inside the box, captive under the bars, so they could hold the
battery itself securely. The box now adds no support to holding the
battery. I should have ran another nylon strap under the box so the
lid could be held on - I'll do that some month.

I'm sure there is a way I could have explained this better...let me
know if you need me to clarify.
