tranny/cv/diff failure?

tonight i was turning right into my driveway and something went snap...

the car immediately stopped moving forewards and rolled back down the driveway. i slammed on the brakes figuring i hit something and rolled back to check it out. nothing. i tried to finish pulling up and get about 2 feet before BANG, the car stops again. 

the car would roll back fine, but not forewards. would row thru all the gears fine, rev fine, just not go more than 2 feet.

we jacked it up and played with the pass. side wheel until it finally 'let go'. the wheel then spun fine and we pushed it into the driveway.

my question is WTF?

im going to check it out tomorrow in the light...i hope this isnt too severe (this just had to happen as i was comming into enough money to make the car drive nicely... :(  )
