freakin' drive shaft!!!!

on my way home from getting my alignment dine yesterday i go to make a left 
turn and hear what sounded like a balloon popping. then when i gave the car 
gas it didn't move, and all i hear is the tell-tale spinning of a broken/ 
dislodged drive shaft. so after waiting 1 1/2 hours for the aaa guy to show, 
i get the car towed back to the shop, pull off the wheel and find that the 
drivers side shaft snapped clean in 2, causing the boot to explode. 
fortunatly i have spares here, and about an hour later was on the road 
again, didn't even have to mess up the new alignment. but has anyone elses 
shaft ever shorn in two? it seems to me like they should be tougher then 
that.
