*#!&ing speed-o gear




Actually, the odds are pretty good.  I got mine out that way.  There's 
another guy I know of that lost his gear and it disappeared out of 
sight.  He started the car and let it idle in neutral (no gears 
turning).  There was enough oil movement to cause the gear to float by the 
speedometer cable hole (yes, it floats!) and he nabbed it.
