[tech] weird starting and rough acceleration

Hey all,

I finally got my 2.0l 8V running but it has a coupla issues before I can say
that it's complete.

First problem, if I try to start the car by turning the key, the motor
continually cranks but won't start (I'm guessing a spark issue here).
HOWEVER, if I turn the key to the on position and jump the starter by
connect a jumper wire from the starter (terminal 50) to the positive of the
battery, it cranks and starts without any problems. So now what? For the
life of me, I cannot figure this one out. I've thought about dumping the
existing wiring and simply installing a push button to start the car....any
thoughts or suggestions about this one?

Secondly, once the car is running, it idles fine but on acceleration, it's
quite rough to say the least. The motor pulls but it's so rough. I
replaced the spark plugs as well as the wires with good ones and no change.
So what gives?

Here's the low down on the car....prior to the swap, the car ran great (Slow
for my liking but nonetheless peppy). I installed a 2.0l 8V bubble block
with the knock sensor.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I was hoping to run
the car in an autocross next weekend. TIA

Sal
