please help me find stainless exhaust studs!

The only reason I know this is I changed a friends
turbo in his mazda mx-6 (probe gt pretty much) & I had
to pull some studs off. Even with the manifold cherry
red from an acetoline(sp) torch & wax I still broke
all 4. I went to drill em...no dice, I kept breaking
drill bits in a drill press. He finally just bought a
new manifold. Granted these were 10 years old. Where
are the metallurgy people on the list? Ron P? any
comments.
