OK - the way i read it 171 feet plus a road plus 71 feet, 168 feet in the air (needed to be travelling at some speed still to get airborne for 168 feet. My Peugeot 305 managed 50 feet at 70mph on a humpback once (not recommended but i was young). He then hit a pole 12 foot up!!! before cartwheeling 100ft which takes some speed especially after snapping a pole 12 foot up. Whatever speed he was doing it was too much obviously (assuming the story is factually correct) as he couldn't stop in time.

Personally i think he applied the Jato's too late ;-)

An Acura 3.2CL Type-S takes nearly 180 feet to stop on clear, dry pavement
from 70 mph.
This guy went another 89 feet (so, was he going....what 75mph? 80mph?) then
flew through the air (which won't slow anything down), then rolled, which
also doesn't have much coefficient of friction!
He wasn't going much faster than most of you guys who were caravaning to
Cindy.....
