Sorry for the non-scirocco content, but I have gotten little help =
elsewhere I have asked about this thing that is going on with the car. =
The car is a 1992 Jetta GL. Problem I am having is intermittent A/C =
activation. My first guess was the system had no refrigerant (R-12) in =
it, which I sorta knew it didn't because the last time it worked =
consistently the air wasn't that cold. Eventually the compressor stopped =
working all together and I figured this was due to low pressure in the =
system. I was on a road trip with the car and I turned the vent on and =
when the slider went by the a/c selections I felt a jolt as if the =
compressor came on. To make a long story short when I got to where I was =
going I checked and it was on. Kept coming on consistently and I took =
the opportunity to have the system check/evaced of R-12 and then bought =
a R134a conversion kit. Did the conversion, system worked fine for about =
a day and a half. Air was real cold etc. Working awesome. Compressor =
cuts out, the end of that luxury once again. So I was fiddling with the =
system yesterday. There is no power coming from the car to the =
compressor at all. I check before the pressure switch and nothing is =
there. Checked the fuse, all is well with that. Here is the kicker and =
this confuses the hell out of me. If I take my test light, put one end =
on the battery + and just touch the pressure switch in the A/C line for =
a second the compressor immediately kicks in and will stay running for a =
random amount of time after this before cycling off and then not =
restarting, unless I give it a jolt again. Sometimes I can drive for =
like 20 mins like this and it stays running sometimes like 2 or 3. It =
varies. I even touched the wire on the side before the pressure switch =
and the compressor comes to life, so I don't think its the pressure =
switch. I am totally baffled and since the listers seem to be very =
knowledgeable I thought I might ask for some help here. Any input anyone =
has is greatly appreciated as I would like to get this thing going =
again if I can. Especially now that I have spent $40 to get this thing =
converted over to 134a and knowing that it can work if it somehow gets =
electricity.

Thanks,
Chris
