Tarantula rims, Magnesium?

Out of morbid curiosity last nite while up at the shop working on my car
I figured Id put this stupid argument to rest. I pulled three (count
them) three 13inch tarantula rims off the shelf, one 14 inch tarantula
rim, and one of those early scirocco rims for good measure.=20

Chris Delong and I set about with hacking some of the material away as
well as grinding a bunch of very large shavings form each rim. Putting
the pieces on the shop floor resting in a nest of shavings we attempted
to ignite them. Guess what. They don't burn. Why, because they are not
magnesium.=20

Don't think I tried hard enough? I got the torch out. No igniting. Still
not trying hard enough? We soaked the piles in gasoline. Well the
gasoline sure as hell burned but no bright white flames from the
"magnesium".

So after 4 rims from various vintages of cars none were magnesium. I can
post pics if you all would like. But I think this discussion has wasted
too much bandwidth already.

 Hey Patrick... I have those rims still.  Well, they are
actually on Meredith's GLI at the moment... just being
"borrowed" for now...

I was thinking of keeping them for a back up set of wheels,
but burning them does sound like more fun, doesn't it!?  ;)

I'm sure that they will be at Daun's for Cincy...so we can
settle this question once and for all...
but I do believe they are actually Magnesium, as they do
not have the cast lip like the other similar Aluminum=20
Tarantulas have... hmmm
