Yes, that would not be bad. I had a 82 Rabbit GTI for a few years. I"m =
not really as worried about spending money on it as why I'm an how I am =
spending money on it I guess. It's a different thing to spend money on =
a brake upgrade kit or something that will last the life of the vehicle =
on a street car vs spending an insane amount of money to make my =
scirocco go .05 of a second faster on the auto-x course so I can go =
faster next week. Or rushing to get it fixed when I break it before the =
next points event so I can win the series for the year. It's also hard =
to justify doing that for a car that left my garage all of 7 times last =
year. =20

If it was a street car with the ability to be driven with the family in =
it occasionaly or out of town everyonce on a while I would feel better =
about it. Also whenever I take the car to an event I end up being there =
all day, and I'm sure it will be really hard on my wife to watch a 3 =
year and an infant each time I take the car out. I guess I'm looking =
for something I can shine up and keep a car cover on and drive whenever =
it suits me. I know I'm going to end up playing around with whatever I =
buy as I can't not mess with anything I have.

I've played with the idea of a 944 for years but I've heard that the =
parts are really $$$.

No. 2 eh? Kids are great!! We just had our 4th 7 weeks ago and =
wouldn't have it any other way. So with all this budget talk, believe =
me, with me being the sole source of income for the fam, things can get =
tight but usually not because of the amount of kids you have (especially =
at early ages) but because of those little VW projects!! Anyway, if you =
are thinking of something fun and fast and cheap to work on then I would =
have to suggest a Rabbit!! I have a 2.0L 16v 77 Rabbit that has beaten =
everything I have gone up against and with the prices of A1 parts being =
so cheap (especially since there is such a huge "used" market out there) =
I couldn't think of anything else that I could have that would be so =
fast without selling out to a domestic. =20

I have taken my back seat out so there are only two seats but I =
usually just do little quick errand runs with it and take a kid with me. =
My older two (6 and 5) are big enough that I just use the seat belt =
with one of the adapter thingies that makes the seat belt not rub on =
their head or neck but the car seat does snap in pretty easy especially =
if you upgrade to later seatbelts. =20

Plus, my kids love to ride in it and we have a rotation of who goes =
with me. They love to ride in "the rabbit car" because sometimes Poppa =
goes fast!! Anyway, just an idea. I have owned a couple Sciroccos but =
one was for parts and the other was for profit (was totalled and only =
needed a motor and was perfect other than the motor which I rebuilt (JH =
with 4K) and resold it for $2500--84 8v black with leather and Ronals) =
so I am only on the list because my car is basically a 16v Scirocco in =
disguise with everything including brakes (front, back, master, =
booster), entire car wiring harness including CIS-E, trans, engine, etc. =
I wouldn't mind getting a Scirocco 16v someday but could never get rid =
of the rabbit since it has been in the family since it was new. =20

Sorry about the rambling but I am just very happy with my Rabbit (even =
though it has been some work) and would like to see another enthusiast =
save another one of these endagered creatures. =20

  Dave

P.S. Anything up to 79 (I think) is German built with the dual rounds =
in the front and small rear tail lights. Good cars!
