Tarantula rims, Magnesium?

I think all tarantula's are aluminum.  I've been told that the MKI rims are 
magnesium by a reputable wheel shop.

I am downgrading my brakes on my 16v as i want to run 13's... (the vented
9.4's are good enough for a heavier GTi mk2 16v 2l, so they are good
enough for me..)

So anyway, i read the archives and some people have hinted that some or
all of the tarantula stock VW rims are magnesium rather than Aluminium, is
this true?

If so, how do you tell the difference between the magnesium and aluminium
ones (assuming that there are both out there.)
