Cross flow has intake runners that enter the head from the front with
the exhaust still exiting out the back. Older style 8v motors have
intake and exhaust on the back of the head.

Bubble blocks are called so because they have increase block material
around the cylinder bores for the increased piston diameter. Where a 1.8
has a flat face, the 2.0 liter Audi 3A  block has a four 'lump' shaped
face on the front as well as the back. Think 4 grain silos side by side.

They are better- than the stock motor due to increased displacement,
than the taller ABA block because they do not require a longer downpipe
to fit in place of the original 16-1.8.
