Shifter bushing kit

The part I am trying to identify is just above the Thermo-Time Switch,
just to the right of the water outlet. The Coolant Temp Sensor is to the
lower left of the water outlet and there is another sensor just above
the Coolant Temp Sensor that has a yellow (to me brown) and red wire
connected to it. I am wanting to know what this mystery sensor is.

In the Bentley pg 3 of 4 "Electronic Engine Controls - 16 valve
Scirocco" lower right corner connected to terminals 32 and 21 is an
object called a Temp Sensor (NTC). What is it? The electrical diagram
shows BL/W and BR/BL wires going to it. I'm not finding these wires.

My concern is that this is a sensor that is needed by the computer to
adj air/fuel or whatever. I am supposing it was left off a year ago when
my shop replaced this engine into my car.

The engine is a 16V PL engine, the car is an '86.5 body.

Button connector? Locking connector with a release on the side? Not sure

about that but the thermo-time switch is in that area.
