[tech] 4K vs 9a question was: What tranny is this?

i'll try to answer this better than jason just did :)
closer ratio means you are able to keep your engine closer within the power band peak area. take
the rieger for example, it has an FN tranny, which is about the widest ratio you can do. i have to
stay away from mods that remove low end torque (50mm intake, etc), since i get 2000-2500 rpm jumps
between gear shifts. this means i get a nice cruising-mobile, but i have to keep my torque band
wide. if i dont keep it wide i'll get decemated by the hondas around here, and we cant have that
now, can we?
now i could go for the high peak if i wanted to, but i would have to go close ratio to get max
potential from the engine/tranny combo. this is why people spend thousands to get a 4k fitted with a
6 speed. that gets you the close ratio as well as getting rid of your highway buzziness.
