Re: tranny and/or shifter problem



Welcome to the list...it's full of good guys and a few wonderful
ladies.  (The assholes, we run off).

To the point...Don't know your VW history, but shifter linkages are
very prone to wear and cause all sorts of problems not unlike what you
describe.  You can re-do purt' near all of it for well under $50, not
including the actual shifter assembly itself.  That includes the
bushings, the little arms, and the ball-with-an-arm-sticking-out (relay
ball?).  All that and an adjustment will prob. get you going, I'm 90%
sure.  Takes maybe an hour.  Also check your front and rear
engine/tranny mounts.
