RE: strange noise - new question



Years ago I tried to use this tool (rented from VeeParts) to do the front
bearings on my Rabbit GTI. I must have ridden on the bad bearings too long
and maybe the heat caused them to sieze because I couldn't get them to budge
with the tool. Call me whimpy if you want, but I couldn't get the damn
things out no matter how hard I tried. I finally pulled them off and brought
them in to work and used a hydraulic press.

I think my case is kind of rare since I drove on those bad bearings for
probably about a month as I tried to diagnose what was causing the weird
howling. And I was driving 50+miles/day on those bad bearings! It was
finally the dealer who diagnosed the problem for me. This was back in '93 or
'94--before I had the list as a resource.
