I don't think you should drive the Mk1 in the winter at all!  They are too 
rare in the  NE to let them fall victim to road salt!  Spend a couple hundred 
bucks on a "disposable" car like a Dodge Omni or some other domestic shitbox. 
 BTW, a 76 Pontiac Bonneville with snow tires can be lots of fun!  :)
