We did get the 16v Scirocco in 1986/87 only. It was officially imported in 
LHD only and was very expensive compared to the 8v and other cars at the 
time. Numbers imported ramnge from 10 to 50 depending on who you speak to. I 
have only ever seen 2.

The other A1 was the Mk1 Golf 16S (soupages) which was a French edition with 
Oettinger head and valves etc etc produced in limited numbers to compete 
with things like the Renault 5 turbo. It was a specail a limited edition 
(less than 100 i think) produced by Oettinger officially for Volkswagen 
France. Some (2 or 3) found their way to the UK.

As for pansy motors our 8v produced 112hp from 1985 to 1992 which is only a 
minor 11hp less than your stock 16v.
In fact our carbed 8v produced as much as your injected 8v - 90hp but then 
our 16v produced a nice fat 139hp ;-)
