Yes.

Yes, I just climbed over a bunch of engines, to get to the 1.8L 16V short
block, that's upside down, on a piece of board, without an oil pan, and
you can clearly see the spring.

No, and it looks like you've found what was causing the filters to come
off...

Replace the rear main seal ASAP, before your clutch disc is ruined!!!

And drain the oil, just in case there are some bits left...
