I had thought about adhesive, but it would make later carpet removal
or replacement rather difficult. Since this will be a milled aluminum
part, I would expect it to outlast the carpeting, so would want to
make it removable in some fashion. You are right about the rust prone
nature of holes however. Living in Texas, I always forget to take
rust into account, as it is not a major problem here.

I am definitely leaning toward some sort of two part assembly using
the nibs that the stock plates are anchored to.







The goal is to overcome the deliberate nature of the process.
