RE: Anyone replace their lug bolts with studs and nuts?

Yes, we put studs in my son's (aventari) MkI.  He got some good studs from a
local off-road supply after the Gorilla brand studs gave up (the Gorilla's
were too soft).  The nuts are standard aftermarket, with a straight
taper-seat instead of the radiused seat that VW uses, but, after several
years and many on/off cycles, there was no evidence of distress with either
the nuts or the stock wheels.  (We always use a torque wrench on the wheels)
 He's been running Konig wheels and nuts for awhile now, and the studs are
holding up well.  I recommend the swap to studs, just use Locktite when you
put 'em in.
