RE: best motor mount configuration?

Eric- You've given good information. I'd have to nix the delrin as a
possible material, however. It would give the same results as aluminum
without aluminum's durability, i.e. rigid, but suseptible to cracking and/or
long-term deformation.

Subject: Re: best motor mount configuration?

I went straight for the poly front mount to keep the engine contained.
I've tried to use the rear poly (the cube) to REALLY get the power down,
but between me and three of my Scirocco 16v super friends (not on the
list) I believe the count is 15-20 shattered rear poly mounts. I tried
different manufacturers, different torque on the bolts, and a different
driving style. No good...they all fragged. After building the current
2.0 and balancing it, I decided to try something a tad more radical for a
street car. Fed up with the rear poly, I went with a solid aluminum from
EM Sport. I had to clearance it to fit with power steering but that was
the ONLY problem I've had. (remember, balanced)

So as far as types, you have:

OEMish Taco rubber
OEM rubber (<don't be fooled, all original #'s are now superceded to
diesel #'s)
HD (Motorsport) rubber
Poly (full/inserts)
Aluminum.

I'm sure you could probably get a derlin(sp?) mount made that would be
resistant to cracking.

PS. My front poly mount is 5 years old and has not cracked yet, the
drivers side poly insert is 3 years old and holding up just fine.
