RE: 16v starter woes, I think...

sounds like your solenoid on your starter is not kicking the gear
of the starter unto the flywheel.

Subject: 16v starter woes, I think...

I need a little help diagnosing a problem. I was driving along
today when all of a sudden, the RPM's drop and the car stalls (87
16v BTW). My first thought was the timing belt. It's not quite
due for a change (it's on my very near future to do list). I try
restarting the car and all I get is a high pitched whine, like the
engine isn't being cranked. I pop the hood and crank again, eyeing
the timing belt and it is not moving. Do I have a crapped out
starter or should I be looking at something else or in addition to
the starter?

TIA,
Stewart
