Nope, The splines should not need to be adjusted. Let it be.

Consider- The splines never shifted, haven't jumped. Why has the linkage
gone out of spec? 

1. Motor Mount sag, bad alignment of motor in bay.

2. Linkage Bushings worn, sloppage increase.

3. Shifter Lever Plate has moved over time, hard shifts, big Gorilla
Mechs trying to find reverse, etc.

In any of these situations the splines have not changed, why are you
adjusting them? This should be the _last_ thing changed.
