1.8 vs 2.0 L Pressure Plate?

I'm in the midst of redoing my 84 GTi's clutch. Since I'm dirt cheap, can some one with
experience/EKTA tell me what the difference between a 2.0 L and 1.8 L 16V
210mm pressure plate is? I have in hand new erstwhile 027 141 025R 2.0L
pressure plate. Markings on the plate are: "TYP M210X" and a "5.5" that
are stamped into reverse side. There are some ink numbers: 106-11196E
and SC70037P along with a mfr? date code "92". Reason for asking is that
I also have a used 1.8 pp out of a Scirocco that has the same engraved
numbers. It also has virtually identical measurements of the friction
surface thickness and thickness of the spring fingers. All steel has
about the same modulus, right? One final difference: new pp has "Hecho
en Mexico", while used is German origin. PP was separate individual
order, not part of "super set", fWIW.

So, I know in the real world of parts, any of the above pp would be OK,
but was hoping the 2.0 would be the "best of breed"?

And, any prophylactic tips to avoid the "cracked cluch cable bracket"
syndrome while I'm on the subject? Welding is not easily available
option, not having a problem (with that) right now.
