Alternator death!

My alternator just became a piece of junk. What should a reasonable
price be for a new alternator for an '88 16v with AC, and is there
one brand that is better than the others? Also as a stop gap, would
the alternator from a 91 Fox with AC work in there?







The goal is to overcome the deliberate nature of the process.
