RE: Fuel mileage / fuel pump



I can understand an electric fuel pump possibly being damaged by running
dry.  I can't understand how running LOW on fuel could harm it.

I had a new '85 GTI back in the day, and I remember reading very early on 
someplace (one of the reviews?) that if you ran the tank dry, you'd fry
your fuel pump.. something I always kept in mind and took care never to
run too low on fuel in the bugger.
