Re: ignition timing.fuel adjustment [Yahoo! Clubs: Hot Rabbit]

Hey your right on!! Except there is no such thing as 110%. Other than
that, cool!!

> Don't even think about turning the A/F mixture screw unless you are 110%
sure everything else is working at least at 80%. The idle and timing are
adjusted first and then the A/F ratio(the fan has cycled twice or more and
the oil is at op temp). If you don't have a three gas exhaust probe(everyone
should eventually), you can use the dwell method for crude adjustments.
Fight the urge and leave it alone, it will only cause you mad headaches!
> Make sure your O2 sensor is giving accurate signals(O2 sensors only last
about 40K miles, and even less if you beat the car up) to the control unit,
and that the control unit is getting viable signals(if any) from the coolant
temp sensor. Assuming you have a 8V engine with K-lambda style
injection(uses a frequency valve instead of a DPR unit(cis-e style)) of
course.
> First completly remove the green plug from the transaxle. There are a few
things machined on(into) the flywheel that could be mistaken for the timing
indicator mark. What you are looking for are two marks that are about 1 inch
apart. One is the TDC mark(it is the round one) and the other one is the
timing mark(it is cut into the flywheel and looks like a slash). Don't be
fooled by the index mark used to aid in transaxle removal(it's the raised
portion protruding outward, and is roughly 24 degrees BTDC). Spin the engine
around until the TDC dimple lines up with the pointer(you can pop the
distributor cap and look where the rotor is pointing) and put a drop of
paint or white out on both marks(the pointer is machined into the transaxle
housing). Just a reminder, never turn the engine over using the camshaft
sprocket bolt. Good luck hope this helps a little.
