16v vs 8v proportioing valve question

alright I need a simpel answer, My 85 8v has 2 proportionning valves on the
master cylinder and it always had them, now my friend only have 1 on his 16v
(87/86??) and I was wondering if he was missing one (his is leaking and he
needs to replace it) or 1 proportionning valve on the 16v is normal?
