OK, that implies that 1974-1976 are exempt, right?
(you better be sure!) You won't find many of these in
Europe.

You also have to please the EPA (no time limit).

The point is if you're not careful, assuming you could
find someone to ship it here without the paperwork in
advance, you could end up with a Scirocco impounded
(or destroyed) by US Customs and a very large bill to
fix the paperwork mess.

Make sure you check out all the angles very carefully.
I have a friend that imported a VW from Canada (and
was put through the ringer) - I can't imagine the
amount of hassle it could be to bring a car over from
Europe . . .
