You are not the cheapest! I'm going to use the best parts of the lot. I'll
toss the ring that's bad though.

I think we are talking about the same parts here. Those three tabs center
the disk and ring in the PP. If undue stress were placed on those three tabs
then it seems to me that that entire assembly could take a hit. Consider
this, what if that new PP was installed because the three tabs had failed
and they hadn't changed the ring. Wouldn't that make some sort of sense?
