don't let the Porsche decision count as a mark against studs.  I believe the
warping was not caused by the studs, per se, but by the method of installing
those studs. (as someone pointed out, cars by the many millions use studs
successfully) 
In our cars, threading studs into the stock drilled/tapped bolt holes will
not have the potential for distortion that pressing in an interference-fit
stud will.  Follow me?

My SP GTi came with studs in front/stock in rear.  Studs and spacers are 
one reason.  If you would like the benefit of studs for mounting 
ease/spacer sue, you can get two studs and lightly thread them into bolt 
holes to get wheel mounted.  Insert/lightly tighten the other two bolts, 
remove one or two studs, replace with remaining bolts.  Reads longer than 
it is to do.

Recent C&D ahs item that Porsche went to bolts for some model in 2002 
becasue the studs were slightly warping the hub?
