[Tech]A1 auto - manual conversion

I know this thread just happend on this list, but im gonna ask it again.

A fellow lister is possibly hooking us up with an A1 project cabby. It's
gonna be my money pit and his experience pit. Its a rabbit cabby (for the
wife)  and its an auto now. whats the difficulty in changing it over to
say a 2.0L 16v manual :-) or some other hopped up 8v (G60 type) i
wondering what a good route to go is going to be. I'll know whether or not
its worth the swap after we get it and I search it for rust. if its a buck
o rust, get it running and driving. new top, new interior, new paint. good
running gear.  call it good to go. not much bucks.
