control arm mount question

WHat I am asking a question about is the rear mount on the control arm. Some
previous owner jackass put a fking standard nut on one of these studs and the
stud is turning. WHere is the other end of it? or are they spot welded in the
chasis? By the way, this is on my 85 cabrio but you guys on the scirocco list
know more than other vwers..
