RE: [tech] Request for input (was: RE: VW Sports Coupe Family Complete! (for now...))

Thanks for the advice! I forgot about the Hardcore page. I think I've got some
reading to do...

The 8v turbo sounds tempting, and I've thought about it a lot, along with a 16v
turbo. Another thing that sounds nice about the G60 setup is that I don't have
to do any custom "Frankenstein" mods like trying to get CIS to flow enough juice
or messing with compression ratios. I've actually started designing a turbo
system for my '88 16v just for fun, mainly using the "Maximum Boost" book from
Bentley. I want to do it someday, I'm just not sure I'm up to the challenge
quite yet. I'd do it in a heartbeat if there were someone nearby that had the
experience. I want the '77 to be a reliable race car as soon as possible,
focusing as much time as possible on learning how to DRIVE 200hp, rather than
just getting the car to OUTPUT 200hp! :)

With the G60, I can (theoretically, of course!) just swap over the whole thing,
engine wiring and all, and have an "OEM-like" setup that any good VW mechanic
should be able to help me with (and I do know at least one of those!). If it ran
in the Corrado, it should run in the Scirocco, right? I'm somewhat comfortable
with electrical wiring, and the G60 Bentley manual should have everything I
need. Adding smaller SC pulleys or off-the-shelf chips sounds easy to me,
compared to customized fuel injection systems.

To answer all you question, go to the hardcore forum and read back a
bit....... http://network54.com/Hide/Forum/51354 It's where the drag queens
from back east and a ton of other forced induction freaks hang out.

If you go the G60 route in a MkI you can easily make 200-225 HP with minor
mods to the motor. It has been done tons of times and there is lots of info
on the trouble spots if you know where to look.

The 020 tranny will handle 200HP with a queef no problem.

A nice medium boost setup like a small T-3 or IHI turbo for fast spool up,
an 8v turbo.com manifold, big vavle hydraulic head, 2.25 exhaust running cis
injection with the Audi bit and a good additional injector controller could
be very nice, Maybe put that on top of an Audi 2.0 block and lower
compression to like 8.5:1 with a copper gasket from www.headgasket.com and
your good to go. That wouldn't be much under 200HP and be pretty fast on
the spool up with great low end umph.
