Re: Intercam timing HELP

You are correct, my Schricks also had no marks. However, all is not
lost. You'll note that the cam ends where the distributor is at have
slots cut into them. The slots have to be parallel to the deck of
the head (which is slightly tilted down towards the front of the car
while the the engine is installed I believe). The exhaust cam is
pretty easy to get right (not 180 flipped) because you can use the
opposite (drive) end with the big gear and the timing mark. If it
points up, you're on the right side. Make sure the engine is at TDC,
and don't crank the cams down until you're sure that the lobes on
1 and 4 aren't going to open the valves...there's pistons directly
below. This is how (I believe) you'll get the intake cam in right.
There's only two ways it goes in with the line being parallel to the
head deck, flip it until the lobes for 1 & 4 don't push the valves
open. Make sure the engine is at TDC and at the approx. center of
the dwell. Check the flywheel timing mark also. When reassbling,
make sure the distributor shaft is pointing to the #1 plug, as I
believe it's possible to get the distributor 180 out, as the pin
drive fits in the cam slot at 0 and 180 degrees.

As far as I know, this technique is sound, think about it. I am
sure about the Schrick slots though.
