Subject: Hello again all

Hello,
I've been off-list for quite awhile, and Jean-Claude recently sent
me a message from Dred Scott asking where I was, and it got me to thinking
that maybe I should drop in and say hello to you all. I don't have a
Scirocco currently, but that never stopped me before : )
I went to my dad's place this weekend (with the phat pit) and
pulled the trans out of my GTi to discover that no, it had not machined
itself - I was an idiot and hadn't tightened the pressure plate to
crankshaft bolts tight enough and they had loosened up and one of them bad
actually come all the way out and was rattling around in the clutch
fingers, making a horrible racket and also preventing the clutch from
disengaging. Humbling. But no serious harm done. In the process of putting
the trans back in, I managed to give myself a minor concussion by holding
the transmission up with my head, which I thought was odd : ) But in any
case, I forgot how much I loved A1 VW's. I had been considering buying an
'85 RX-7 GSL-SE, but all thoughts of such things left my head when I drove
my Rabbit, clutchless even (broken clutch cable, now fixed) around the
"block" (4 miles of lovely curvy dirt and paved roads). I had totally
forgotten how light, tossable and fast that car is. 2nd gear, straight
ahead on dirt, 3000rpm. Floor it and spin hard, spitting rocks up under
the car, all the way to 7200rpm, where it still has useful power. Aw.
Yeah. : )
So I also have an '87 5KCSTQW now, which replaced my sadly
destroyed '87 QSW. It's now modified to ~210bhp (0-60 in 6.8seconds by my
crappy stopwatch) and has Bilsteins in the rear, and front strut inserts
(also Bilsteins) in the back of the car waiting to go in the front when I
get a chance to put them in.
I'm working as a Computer/Network Specialist and UNIX Systems
Admin these days, so my projects are much better funded than of yore,
when, as any of you who knew me will remember, cheap was my middle name.
Good to be back! I'm kindof busy these days, so I don't know if
I'll be able to keep up with the volume of email that this list tends to
generate (I bet it's gotten even worse), but I'll do my best.
	-Josiah
