RE: MFA questions

Hi, I'm the one who's writing up the tech. procedure. I just need to get
some pictures and proofread it first before I unleash it on you guys :) All
the questions that you've asked below will be answered in full in the
procedure but here are some quick answers:

--82-88 Scirocco--

Sensors needed:
*OAT sensor
that's it!

MFA parts needed:
*MFA cluster out of donor car with same engine:
o Cluster has speed sensor (hall sensor)--for miles (km), MPH (km/h), MPG
(L/100km)
o Cluster has engine vacuum transducer--for MPG
*MFA cluster connectors
*MFA wiper stalk
*Vacuum hose

**Note: This is just a quick, basic run-down of what you need. A full list
of everything that you need to do the job is in the tech procedure. I'll
try and get the procedure out by next week.

Since your 82 has the old style wiring harness, some work must be done! (but
you don't have to change any of your wiring harnesses, phew!!) Details on
that are in the procedure.

MPG or L/100km is determined by: tach reading to MFA computer, engine
vacuum, and hall sensor on back of speedo. The vacuum hose comes off of the
main vacuum manifold (where the large vacuum hose from the brake servo goes
into the intake) and goes through the firewall and connects to the vacuum
transducer on the back of the cluster. It's more than likely that the
vacuum hose has come unplugged. Email me if you have any questions.

Nate

Subject: MFA questions

While we seem to be on the topic of Multi Function Adapters, a few
questions to anyone who has any info:

1. What sensors are actually needed to make a MFA work? I figure I already
have the oil temp sender in my '82, the trip meter is that done via another
sensor, or one in the Speedo's odometer? I know the outside air temp is on
the bumper in my '86 with MFA, the L/100KM is done my what sensors?,etc...

2. Can ANY one let me know how the L/100 km (mile/gal for you us folks)
actually works? On my '86 this is the only function that does not work.
All other functions work fine, but this one always shows 0000, or ---- when
clear the system. I would like to get it working (even if I don't use it -
I hate things that don't work in the car). Anyone have a clue?

Someone mentioned a tech procedure for installing a MFA in a non MFA car. I
would be very interested in this once it is done, as I want to install on
into the '82 and wanted to know how much work it would be and what
additional sensors I would need.

Thanks

Cory
