Re: 02A VS 020 (Was: 1.8T in Scirocco 16V)

The 02As need bolt kits, too. The VR6 mailing list has named this TFS
(Tranny Fragmentation Syndrome), and the list has debated the causes for TFS
numerous times. One school of thought blames VW's use of the ABS as a
poor-man's traction control system, while the other claims excessive wheel
hop is the culprit (by way of the mushy stock suspension).

Either way, the bolt kit/Quaife/Peloquin upgrade is recommended if you plan
to regularly drag race or perform smoky burnouts with the 02A. I have no
idea if a beefed up 02A would be any stronger than an equally beefed up 020.

[Scirocco content] Speaking of beefed up 020s, I shipped off my Scirocco's
4k and the Quaife I bought via Peter's group purchase a couple months ago to
V.L. Enterprises today. The tranny will be re-built, have the Quaife
installed, AND have the Option-6 Speed kit installed with a .71 6th gear
(keeping the stock 1-5 gears). Just had to share... :)
