150hp?
with a few mods you easily have it over 200hp.

This is true,..and it seems like a decent swap if you can get the engine
itself at a good price and do the work yourself. That guy here who has that
1.8T Scirocco is a poseur though...he had momentum do everything. Momentum
charges $14k US for the conversion. Sounds like another one of those "more
money than brains" kind of swaps. The car doesn't even have a quaife.

b
ut it is allot of work. chassis re-enforcement,

What reincforcement is it you speak of? That is usually only an issue with
installing a VR6, but that is because the VR6 mounts up totally different and
was never meant to fit in an A1.

possible need for a new trany shortly after the swap,

Not if it's properly built to begin with...the trans should last quite a
while. There are 10 second drag Rabbits running O2O gearboxes.

exhaust customization, new

differential, etc......

The exhaust was a given, but big deal... a Quaife goes with the territory.

I
think in the long run you would be better off with building a 2L
block/1.8H combo.

While that is the best way to go for most, it is also the most common route.
Some of us like to be a little different and think outside the box.

U
nless you have 8-11 grand to blow.

Yeah....riiiiight.
