'85 and up, 8V and 16V are the same...

The only difference is that '85 and up uses a pin lock type high voltage
connection.

As long as you can get a good connection with the coil wire, or 
you can upgrade the cap and ignition wires to '85 and up
Scirocco/Cabriolet..
