No, the knock sensor is just a timing adjuster.  It will still run, I
believe, but depending on your engine's condition and how the timing has
been set, you could run into preignition problems.  If you hear the
knocking/pinging under anything but full load (hard acceleration), you'll
need to park it and redo the wiring.
