Rear disc brakes

Title: Rear disc brakes

Sorry if this is a repeat.  My email crashed when I hit send, and I don't know if it got out.

Anyone want to give their two cents please feel free.

Here is a problem I have.

Wanted to put Rear discs onto an old '80 Scirocco I have.

done it with the old style 16V and golf GTI ones, but this time
the wrecker only had Passat systems.

I have tried and tried and I can not get the Passat system to work
with the A1 (even upgraded the master cyl).

the old style are stamped 36 and have a bleeder valve on top,
the passat ones are stamped 38 and have a bleeder valve on the side
(seems like a strange place to put it).

the problem I always run into is Very poor peddle play.

It is as if there is air in the lines.  Keep pumping and
after about 3 pumps brakes work great.  Stop and the pressure
dissipates and you get the peddle to the floor again.

Help?  Suggestions?

(yes I have bled the brakes many times - actually flushed them
at least twice now)
