Keeping the chrome vs. powdercoating black

Ok,
I have a 79 Scirocco with a tidy set of chrome in the window mouldings, and 
on the door handles. I am thinking of keeping the chrome as is, but has 
anyone powdercoated or done something to turn it black? Its just a thought, 
and dunno if anyone has done this. I thought of getting the grooveless 
window seals, but that would be a near impossible and $$$ task. Just 
wondering,
