I'd guess all Scirocco VIN's should follow that pattern - they were all made
at the same plant weren't they?

Here's the VIN for my '88 GTX 8V, RHD UK model:

WVWZZZ532JK016021

So it's '88 model year, 16,021st made.

As far as I can tell from the documents I have, it was first registered in
the UK on 5 August 1988, so I'm not sure how the 16021 production number
fits in with the '88 model year starting 1 August? Or does the '89 model
year start on 1 August 1988?

I looked up in the Scirocco-book,
what's behind the german VIN-number :

here is the VIN of the GTX that I had :

WVW ZZZ 53 Z E K 034933
 1   2   3 2 4 5   6

1.) manufacturer code : WVW = VW AG
2.) filling letter without meaning
3.) two digit type code ( 53=Scirocco )
4.) model-year, usually fom 01.08 til 31.07 of the following year
     9= 1979, A=1980, B=1981, C= 1982, D=1983,
     E=1984, F=1985, G=1986, H=1987, J=1988, K=1989
5.) place of the VW-plant, K=Osnabrück
6.) running production number, each year starts with 000 001

So I guess you have a different VIN code in the USA / GB
or is it the same ??
