Can't say the "booth" idea is that bad of an idea....since I do it.  :^)
As far as a gun....I will throw this idea at you.   Many a painter will tell
you that the popular spray gun, (if not best IMHO),   is a "SATA" HVLP gun.
(German made,...go figure)  Naturally none of us non painters want to spend
the $300 + for this type of gun.  (duh!)   But not so long ago a painter
friend of mine told me of a good replacement that is a SATA replica.   The
gun is made by MAC , (track down the MAC truck hanging out at your local
dealership), and right now it is on sale for $89 through MAC.  ( I paid a
bit more about 6 months ago)   For the non-professional painter,....I have
used the real deal and the MAC and I can't see the difference.   But there
again,..factor in the lack of experience.
