Pat? Right off the bat i want to be sure this is no tussle going on.
With that said-

I base my avoidance of rebuilt CV joints from the local FLAPS on:

1. Anecdotal evidence by other people who have had trouble. (This is
hearsay, I know that, I listen and form my own judgment.) This also
influences #2.

2. My own experience with buying major replacement components from
Kragens, Grand Auto, etc., etc.; They don't use OEM quality
(substituting with knock off, one-size-fits-all, no name brand, of
dubious origin parts), they often times just do the minimal refinishing
to cores (seems they spend more time on a fresh coat of paint than
anything else). How often have I taken a 'new' part back to exchange it
because it is not in proper working condition? Or is just the wrong part?

I trust these guys to sell me oil. Because I picked off the shelf.
I don't trust them to rebuild something I hope to be putting HP & torque
through going around a corner at speed, nor want to buy something based
on it having an exchange policy that I fully expect to have to use.

I hold that the properly remanufactured CV joint is the exception, not
the rule. If this is the case then I would rather rebuild my own and
sleep soundly at night.
